Chapel consecrated at Moscow's main international airport.

Moscow December 8, 2010

On December 7, with the blessing of His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Bishop Alexander of Dmitrov consecrated a chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Terminal E of Moscow's Sheremetevo International Airport.

The chapel was built in the new terminal at the initiative of the airport's general director, M. M. Vasilenko, reports Patriarchia.ru. Mr. Vaslilenko was awarded the order of St. Daniel of Moscow, second degree, for his efforts. Bishop Alexander presented the award.

"Sheremetevo International Airport is actively participating in the revival of an age-old Russian tradition, according to which every transportation station and intersection of main roads, had a place where a person could comfort his soul. Today I was talking with a few passengers who said that their distant trips are ever so much calmer after prayer," said Bishop Alexander.

"With the increase in passage flow at the airport, more and more people go to dedicate a few minutes to prayer before their flights. We have always been attentive to this need: be they Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, or Jews," noted the head of the organization department for passenger transport at the airport, A. Nikulin.

The St. Nicholas chapel is located on the second floor of Terminal E near the express train exit, which makes it equally accessible to passengers from all Terminals of the airport. The chapel is open daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
