The
5th Court of Ankara has ruled that 23 Turkish Cypriots
are the heirs of “Abdulah Pasa,” a
monastery property. The Cypriot citizens had appealed
to the court in June 2007, after a
decision by the European Court of Human Rights on
June 1st, 2007. That decision ruled
that Turkey was to award 885,000 euros in
compensation to Mira Ksenidi Aresti for her property in
Amohosto. She and her family had not had
access to the property since the Turkish invasion
in 1974.
Asli Aksou Eren, the attorney of the 23
Turkish Cypriots, stated in 2007 that, “There
should be separate litigations for each one of the
monastery properties in Amohosto in order to avoid the
possibility of Turks losing the Varosha region, which is
composed of monastery properties.”
