Petersburg doctors obtained a permission to transfuse blood to a girl in court as her father sectarian banned to save the child

St.Petersburg, March 29, 2012

Petersburg doctors had to obtain in court the right to transfuse blood to a one-year old girl injured in the road accident, press service of the Children's Rights ombudsman in St.Petersburg reports.

The day before, deputy head doctor from the Rauchfuss Children's Hospital turned to the ombudsman. It cleared out that the girl's father practically banned the doctors to save his child.

The girl and her mother suffered from the road accident on March 26, when a driver drove on the three passersby at the Solidarnost Prospect.

Doctors tried to persuade the girl's father, but did not have any success. It cleared out that he belonged to Jehovah Witnesses whose convictions do not allow blood transfusion even in situations dangerous for life.

The man brought an advocate with him, who not only told the doctors that the father officially refused the transfusion, but explained what consequences the hospital would face if they violate the parental ban.

However, chairman of the Smolny Court Viktor Shashkin took a resolution to permit blood transfusion and make an operation by life-saving indications independently from the parent's ban.
