September 21, 2015, was the 720th anniversary of the discovery of the miraculous Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign." On this day, following Divine Liturgy at the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign” in New York, the holy icon departed for Russia, accompanied by His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan.
From September 22-23, the icon will visit the Shchigrovsk Diocese of the Kursk Metropoliate, then will arrive for evening services to the Kursk-Root Hermitage of the Nativity of the Mother of God monastery, where it shall remain for veneration by the faithful until September 25. On that day, the Apodosis of the Nativity of the Mother of God, in accordance with a centuries-long tradition, a procession of the cross with the icon will commence from the monastery to Znamensky Cathedral in the city of Kursk, where it shall remain until October 2.
On September 29, the miracle-working icon will visit medical institutions in the city. On September 25-October 2, the icon will be available for veneration around the clock. On October 2, after Divine Liturgy at Znamensky Cathedral, a farewell moleben will be performed.
