Sergei Geruk, Metropolitan Sergius (Gensitsky) of Ternopil and Kremenets
“Sorrows bring joy and salvation to true Christians, for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom. 10:13).” These were Metropolitan Sergy’s words of consolation to his flock—parishioners of a church in the Kuty village of the Shumsk district of Ukraine’s Ternopil region in August this year, where he celebrated the Divine Liturgy in a tent.

We simply cannot leave our church to its fate or hand it over to someone else. Now some people have lost the fear of God and do not want our communal prayer to continue in the church. And we will do our best to defend our holy places.
Metropolitan Sergius (Gensitsky)
One time we really needed rain and the bishop went to the altar, got the book out and prayed for rain, said “Amen,” put the book back, and it started to rain. That’s what’s supposed to happen. That’s the power of prayer, and it’s especially real in the Church.
